Abstract

This doctorate paper aims to present an ideological and structural analysis of the "African Writers Collection" configuration, by Ática publisher, which appeared in the end of 1970's and finished in the 90's. In order to know the important of this anthology project, we intend to understand the process formation of the first collection of African books in Brazil. Thus, to develop the topics which are going to be part of the research, the following aspects will be checked: the reception of the African Writers Collection in Brazil; the formative process of the publishing anthology project; the connections built between the Brazilian publishing market and the African literature; how the writers and novels/short stories were chosen; the graphic structure of the publishing project, showing the covers, drawings, preface, glossaries, biographies and bibliographies; the reasons that have taken a success project to its disappearance; the choice or not of a canonical African literature list in Brazil; and, furthermore, we are going to do some interviews with professors and researchers, coping with the importance of the collection. Therefore, with this study, we intend to show the reception, the formation and the influence of this anthology in Brazil. (AU)
