Abstract

This project shall discuss the painting O Importuno (1898), by the Brazilian painter José Ferraz de Almeida Jr. (1850 - 1899). My aim is to examine two main aspects of 19th- century painting: the relationship between nude painting, or the depiction of female body, and eroticism. Therefore, this project will also shed light on Almeida Jr.´s comprehension about artistic practice and about his art. The theoretical framework comes from history, art history, as well as from Psychoanalysis. (AU)
