Review of the current protocol pancreatic enzyme replacement in patients after resection

Abstract

This study aim to measure the enzyme replacement protocol and rationalize its use and maintain or improve quality of life for patients. HC-USP Pharmacy Division provided a list of patients who receive pancreatic enzymes. We identified 90 patients undergoing pancreatic resection at the institution for at least 6 months. Of these, 50 patients fit the inclusion criteria and will be a part of this study. At time 1 is performed anthropometric nutritional assessment (weight, height and skinfold thickness) and 24-hour recall food intake, to determine nutritional diagnosis by BMI, body fat percentage and adequacy macronutrient consumption. It will also be performed clinical evaluation of quality of life (SF-36 questionnaire) and inquiry bowel habits. It will also be scheduled blood collection for biochemical tests (complete blood count, B12 vitamins, A, D, E and K, folic acid, iron, magnesium, total proteins and fractions, urea and creatinine; ionic calcium, blood glucose, AST / ALT / GAMA GT; PT / APTT).At time 2 will be held further consultation to discuss the results of laboratory tests and nutritional assessment. The patient will receive individualized nutritional guidelines in order to maintain / improve nutritional status, quality of life and bowel function. (AU)
