Abstract

Leg problems in broilers are common, caused by rapid weight gain, which is not followed by the development of the cartilaginous system of those birds. Among the most common glycosaminoglycan’s (GAGs) are chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine. The objective of this project is to evaluate the effects of supplementation of GAGs on the cartilagineous system and carcass yield of broilers from 1 to 42 days old. The experiment will require 1440 male broiler chicks of commercial strain Cobb-500 ® with a day old and they will be raised until 42 days of age. The birds will be distributed in a completely randomized, used in a 3x3 factorial design with 3 treatments with percentages adding 3chondroitin sulfate A - 0, 0.08, 0.16 and 3 treatments with inclusion percentages of glucosamine - 0, 0.12 and 0.24%, using eight replicates, each experimental unit consisting of 20 birds. For the experiment will be evaluated biochemical cartilage of tibias and femurs and yield carcass. Feed and water will be provided ad libitum throughout the experimental period. Statistical analyzes of the data will be performed by using analysis of variance with the assistance of the General Linear Model of the SAS (2002), finalizing with an analysis response surface.
