Abstract

The pursuit for ecological and economical processes has stimulated the creation of new technologies in the fields of separation and purification of solutions, promoting the research and development of membranes that combine low fabrication costs and a large application range of experimental conditions. This work proposes the study of raw materials abundant in Brazil (silica nano-compounds) in order to analyze the viability for producing ceramic membranes made from such materials. Experiments will be conducted with variation of processing and sintering parameters of silica nano-materials, looking forward to comprehend their effects on material porosity. Analytical techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction will be used to evaluate the structural characteristics and, in case of producing a material which is applicable as a membrane, additional flux parameters studies will be also carried out.
