Abstract

The Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a myopathy characterized by progressive muscular weakness which cause gait loss around 9 years old. The dependence of wheelchair marked the decrease function and affect the cardiorespiratory ability. Thus, the treatments of this patients aim keep/minimize the loss of muscular strength and extend the time of walking. Assessment's tools as Motor Function Measure (MFM) and the Energy Expenditure Index (EEI) proposed by Rose et al. (1991), can help to elucidate the disease's progress and the better therapeutics interventions. The results of pilot study performed by our research group suggested an inverse correlation between the dimension 1 (D1) score of MFM and EEI. Thus, this study aim to evaluated the EEI during the gait of patients with DMD, with the model proposed by Rose et al. (1991) in order to assess the correlate between energy expenditure (EE) during the gait and general function of this patients. And still, to compare the energy expenditure during the gait between patients and the normative values as established by Rose et al. (1991). This study will count on with a convenience sample of 18 patients at most, which will be assess about weight, height, lower limbs length, body composition by bioelectrical impedance, functionality by MFM and EE during the gait by EEI. Will be perform a description of data's analysis and will be measure the correlation between EEI, total scores and D1 scores of MFM, by Sperman's correlation test and regression models.
