Abstract

This project intends to determine how common is the Sun in its rotation period, by comparing the projected rotational velocity of solar twins to the solar value. We will take into account the average value of the inclination angle I for random orientations (sin i = p/4), and we will also consider possible variations between rotational velocity and age in our sample stars. Our goal will be accomplished by analyzing the line profiles of a large sample of solar twins (88 stars) observed at high spectral resolution by the MIKE spectrograph at the 6.5 m Magellan telescope, as part of our large program to search for planets around solar twins with the HARPS spectrograph at ESO.
