Abstract This project aims to presente to the Brazilian reader a novel by the Congolese author Alain Mabanckou we deem significant within the range of his work: Mémoires de porc-épic, winner of the Prix Renaudot in 2006. We not only intend to translate this work, but also to present the characteristics of the cultural history of Congo and mainly enter the world view and the poetics of the author. Thus, we think it is necessary, at first, to trace briefly the history of the Congo and then situate the author and his work within the panorama of postcolonial francophone literatures, pointing some important aspects of his writing and the way he reflects on quite central issues in his speeches, such as cultural diversity, identity, immigration, language imposed by colonizers and cultural relations between the countries. Finally, we analyze some translating issues that show interest in this work, particularly with regard to the rhythm in prose and its developments in the translation, which includes an analysis of the use of parallelism, structural repetition, accumulation or enumeration, use of vocatives, among others.
