Abstract

The present research has the scope the analysis of genius concept in the Arthur Schopenhauer's philosophy, thinking what grounds the identification between this concept and the pure subject of knowledge. For the philosopher, it is possible to know beyond the phenomenon, there is the possibility of knowledge of Ideas as degrees of objectification of the Will, that consists in the overcoming the principle of sufficient reason (space, time and causality). The individual becomes pure subject of knowledge, according as he can overcome the interest by the objects of the Will, without being conditioned by the connections, that the understanding realizes, of every effect in reference to a cause. The exit of this conditioning is the overcoming of the principle of sufficient reason, of its forms, whereas the causality depends necessarily space and time. In Schopenhauer art has by object the Ideas, that in it turn is genius' work, which is the pure subject of knowledge, capable to overcome the principle of reason, being able access the ideas. The contemplation is translated in the work of art, accessible to all individuals, who has, in a lesser extent, the ability to know the object of contemplation, thus, it figures as a medium (mediator) between ideas and individuals.
