Abstract

On the urban growth São Paulo city went through, Ibirapuera Park got prominence as a metropolitan park due to not only its dimensions and uses but also its architectonic complex projected by Oscar Niemeyer. Although this project was not fully built up: a void was left in its entrance, leaving the marquee hanging loose, which would be the landmark for the main access to the building complex. This research aims to analyze the spatial relation between the building complex and the urban tissue in which it is inserted, marked by an area indicated in the project as the entrance in the park, yet not recognized by the public uses of it. This study reveals itself applicable as the important role the park plays in the city identity, not always treated with the due weight by the government, who mischaracterized despite its importance as cultural symbol for the city. Whereas the park as an important element both for the city image and dynamics, this analysis would be based on the elaboration a series of virtual models, which would incorporate to a platform created by NAPSP - Núcleo de Apoio a Pesquisa: São Paulo - cidade, espaço, memória [Research support group: São Paulo - city, space, memory], which its study object is São Paulo city itself. These virtual models of the built up projects and the alternative proposals by the architect would allow recapturing a discussion that has not finished about the park insertion on the urban tissue.
