Abstract

The urinary tract infection (UTI) by uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) resistant to quinolones are a major public health problem because these antimicrobials are among the main options for treatment, and therapeutic failure may result in progression to severe, with renal failure, sepsis and death. The main reservoir is UPEC gastrointestinal tract and infection occurs after the migration of the bacteria to the perianal region and subsequently into the urethra. In the present study, we propose to perform the evaluation of E. coli resistant to quinolones isolated from patients with UTI. Will investigate the antimicrobial susceptibility profile and plasmid genes responsible for resistance to quinolones. The results of this study are important for knowledge about the spread of resistance genes in UPEC, and may in the future be useful in guiding antimicrobial therapy and programs for the control of resistance.
