Abstract

The pollen morphology of Brazilian species of Chautemsia A.O.Araujo & V.C.Souza, Diastema Benth., Gloxinia L'Hér., Goyazia Taub., Mandirola Decne., Monopyle Moritz ex Benth., Phinaea Benth. and Seemannia Regel will be studied contributing to the morphological characterization of species, identifying pollen data that can help the taxonomy of the group, increasing knowledge about the diversity in the pollen genus and providing subsidies to the better understanding of the relationships between genera of the subtribe Gloxiniinae (Gesnerieae - Gesneriaceae), with special focus on the populations of Mandirola-Goyazia complex. The pollen grains will be acetolysed, measured and photographed under light microscopy, will be conducted photographs under scanning electron microscopy to observe the exine ornamentation and under transmission electron microscopy to characterize the pollen grains ultrastructure. Quantitative data receive appropriate statistical analysis the sample size and will be performed a multivariate analysis trying to identify the important pollen characters in distinguishing species. Qualitative data will be described and grouped into pollen types for use in species identification and understanding of the evolution of the group. (AU)
