Abstract

Studying synthesis gas production, which can be synthesized from a reaction called methane tri-reforming, being also a hydrogen source, is the main subject of this project. The catalytic system will consist of nickel based catalysts supported on MgAl2O4 (spinel) structure, promoted with (CeZr)O2 and (X2O3 + ZrO2), X=La, Sm, Y. This catalytic system choice was based on literature reports that point zirconia (ZrO2) as a promising catalyst support applied to methane tri-reforming. As an attempt to reduce catalyst cost, zirconia associated to other rare earth elements oxides such as Ce, La, Sm and the element Y (yttrium) will be applied as the spinel support promoter. With this work, active and stable catalysts are expected to be obtained. Optimizing operating conditions to produce a synthesis gas with ideal quality to apply it as raw material to liquid fuels synthesis is also expected, once they can be alternatives to gasoline and diesel oil.
