Abstract The Tropicalist movement was constituted and consolidated in the 1967 and 1969 period, dialogue with the various spheres of Brazilian cultural production in full effervescence in the period in question. Their formation process and what it reflected are in constant analysis, feeding debate within and outside the academic world. The Tropicalia ou Panis et Circensis albums 1969 and Caetano Veloso, recorded in 1967, released in 1968, are expressions of this movement that caused a great impact on Brazilian culture and specifically between the left that crystallized an engaged art with proposals for national-popular themes. Its technical innovations, mergers thematic, and aesthetic breaks are topics open to analysis and problem around the dialogue and criticism of the national-popular proposal and his lyrics, which used different strategies of language, as the allegory, to link a message signifying another. Because the importance and breadth of this movement, reflecting certain economic, political, and social stages that Brazil passed, causing changes in the cultural sphere present until today, it is the analysis of both debates on the album Caetano Veloso (1968) and Tropicália ou Panis et Circensis (1969), as their letters in order to shed light not only on a cultural movement in the music field but also around the memory and history made during the military dictatorship by the left in the field of culture.
