Abstract

The perception and experience of urban form depends on the apprehension of the Open Space System (OSS). The system, which is composed by both public and private spaces, is responsible for giving support to the daily urban life, and is in constant transformation. This transformation is carried by a number of agents, among which the government assumes a regulation role. This research project aims to investigate urban transformation areas of the XXI century that take place in five Brazilian cities: Campinas, Curitiba, Maceio, Uberaba and Vitória. The Investigation has a specific focus on urban form, open space systems and their relationship with government regulation.Aiming the deepening of discussions already raised, this project is supported by the research project QUAPÁ SEL II - "The Open Spaces Systems in the Brazilian Urban Form Constitution: Production and Appropriation" (FAPESP process nº2011/51260-7) in development by the QUAPÁ laboratory at FAUUSP. Moreover, data obtained from workshops held in each city which was summarized in reports, and the produced graphical material regarding the same cities are going to offer useful subsides.
