Abstract

The increase in production of industrialized products, high increase of the population in cities and consumption habits guided by the "culture of the disposable", brings as a consequence expansion of waste production, therefore generates serious social and environmental impacts. So this question is also related to geography, since these actions are linked man's relations with the space, influencing in the management and urban planning of cities. With the objective to deal these problems, this research has how object of study the places where they are deposited materials and objects for recycling called Ecopontos, managed by the municipal government of Rio Claro (SP), in order to observe the importance of their characteristics, their limits and potential for the city and for your population.
