Abstract

On the 07th of July of 1978 at the stairways of the Municipal Theater, a group of black men and women presented themselves as the Unified Black Movement motivated by the constant police violence even under the military regimen; they were also strongly influenced by the fights for civil rights in the United States, moreover by the independence of the African countries. They were addressing the Brazilian racial discrimination as it was performed by Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Panteras Negras: to fight in the social political field for demands, in the Brazilian case for pointing out the racial democracy and the wish of an igualitary society. Therefore, it is the aim of this research to knowin what circumstances the strategies and the American speeches were really appropriate and put into practice. The doctorate has been researched in Brazil having the understanding of the world and the strategies of the Brazilian black militancy within the context. The training abroad shall allow us to enlarge our knowledge over the same track of the black militancy in the USA. It shall also make it possible the understanding of the elaboration of affirmative policies in the US which were great inspiration for the current Brazilian policies. We have learned there is a circle of ideas between Brazil and the USA which permit the reacquiring and retaining of meanings by both of them. Consequently, the research shall contribute to broadening the understanding of worldviews and strategies of different black movements. (AU)
