Abstract

The differences in responsiveness to physical training, a resource utilized as non-drug therapy for the prevention and rehabilitation of diseases and for gains in physical performance can be analyzed under a molecular perspective. The identification of distinct gene expression patterns among similar individuals, submitted to the same physical training protocol may provide important molecular information that possibly will pave the way for adoption of individualized therapies of physical training programs. To continue our ongoing investigation regarding the characterization of "molecular signatures" of exercise and physical training, our purpose is to identify the whole-transcriptional patterns of the states: sedentary, physically active and trained for the high performance. Also in attention to possible similarities and differences between blood (leukocytes and whole-blood) and skeletal muscle tissues. In that matter we will continue the evaluation of 40 new recruits from the Sao Paulo State Military Police, evaluated before and after 18 weeks of aerobic training and 30 elite athletes from the athletics modality specialists in middle distance, selected in descending scale of the Brazilian ranking. This proposal justifies itself in the fine results recently obtained (Dias & Silva et al. 2014) regarding the identification of a training responsive transcriptome of physical training and of a group of transcriptional predictors of physical capacity gains, characterized in leukocytes. To understand how similar are the leukocyte, whole blood and skeletal muscle transcriptomes in different states of physical conditioning is what motivates us to invest in the continuation of this study.
