Abstract The aim of this study is to evaluate by imaging methods - radiography, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - the coxofemoral and stifle joints in free-living capybaras. Twenty capybara cadavers (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) divided into two groups will be used: Group 1 - five adult animals, females, weighing from 53 to 55 kg; Group 2 - 15 sub-adult animals, three males and 12 females, weighing from 17 to 26 kg. For this, radiographic examinations in ventrodorsal, craniocaudal and mediolateral views will be performed. Radiographic measurements will include Norberg angle, angle of inclination, anteversion angle of the femoral head; patella length and patellar ligament length, and the length ratio of the patellar tendon to the patella. The right and left joints will be measured and the measurements will be performed by at least two independent evaluators. In addition, radiography, CT and MRI studies of the stifle joints will be compared with gross anatomy. Numerical data will be evaluated by statistical analysis and other findings will be presented descriptively. (AU) | |
