Abstract

Background: The ability of the individual to sustain itself in the upright position, effectively adjusting the body's movements and reacting to external stimuli, represent strategies for postural control essential activities of daily life. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM-2) is considered a major public health problem with complications as the deficit in the functional performance of the lower extremities and falls, which can interfere with the maintenance of equilibrium, besides being a strong predictor of functional limitations self referred. Purpose: To assess postural balance in patients with type 2 diabetes, after training sensorimotor supervised and unsupervised comparing the effectiveness of both, considering the standing position, gait and functional tests. Method: 75 volunteers will be recruited from ages 45 and 64 years suffering from DM-2, of both sexes, divided in three groups: 1) house training (n = 25), 2) supervised training (n = 25) and 3) untreated control group (n = 25). Data postural balance in Balance Master platform Neurocom Sistem® and clinical evaluation bestest will be collected. The intervention will be twice a week for 45 minutes and for 12 weeks, divided into three phases: heating, sensorimotor training and cool-down, with monitoring of arterial pressure and glycemia. Statistical analysis will be used normality test to verify the data distribution and consistent statistical test for the appropriate intra and inter-group comparisons, and adopted a significance level of 5%. Expected Results: Considering previous studies that demonstrate improvement in postural balance after intervention with exercise, expected improvements in biomechanical and functional parameters associated with the balance of carriers volunteers from DM-2 after sensorimotor training, with greater gains for the supervised group .
