Abstract

Several investigations suggest that electrocardiography (ECG) and arterial blood pressure (ABP) present changes in pathologies. For example, an irregular cardiac frequency is typical of atrial fibrillation and is revealed in the ECG signal, while an increase in ABP values is characteristic of hypertension. This undergraduate research aims at investigating the contribution of Fourier descriptors--obtained from the ABP versus ECG curve--in the detection of hypertension and atrial fibrillation. The cardiac cycles are selected from ECG and PA signals provided by MIMICII-PhysioBank, version 3.Results obtained by Fourier descriptors will be compared with the ones provided by spectral components from the original ECG and ABP signals.
