Abstract

In contemporary democracies elections are essentially the way in which political parties compete for positions. Thus, election campaigns are at the heart of the relationship between parties and democracy. Contemporaneously the media play an important role in relation to the activities of political parties during election periods. Including television, which becomes the main variable of the process of professionalization of campaigns, specific object of this study. The characteristics of this political phenomenon are trends in Brazil, especially in elections to the national executive positions, state and capital. Thus, the aim of this research project is to identify and analyze the variables of the process of professionalization of Brazilian election campaigns locally. To meet this goal are privileged successful campaigns in 2016 of the cities that are headquarters of the RMs of São Paulo: Sao Paulo, Campinas, Santos, São José dos Campos and Sorocaba, and the biggest cities in each region without access to HGPE in open television, Guarulhos, Sumaré, São Vicente, Jacarei and Itu.
