Abstract

Photofilms consist of films that are entirely made of photographs or in which photographic language is explored substantially. This type of "animation" lies in the passage between cinema and photograph, superposing aspects from both supports. The PhD research relates photofilms to the concept of appropriation, giving birth to the so-called "photofilms of appropriation" category. With the assessment and analysis of the related filmography, began the practical stage of the research, which aims at making a photofilm of appropriation from de archive left by photographer and musician Valério Vieira (1862-1943), especially focusing on the work "Os 30 Valérios" or "The 30 Valerios" in a free translation (circa 1904). The present project requests a scholarship to a research internship abroad with the purpose of making the film, under the supervision of professor Georges Sifianos, at École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs.
