Abstract

The objective of this project is to analyze political motivations and political consequences of Chinese investments made in Latin America in comparative perspective. The general PhD project financed by FAPESP (process 2014/03831-3) is based on two lines of research: (a) a broad line, which considers Latin America as its unit of analysis, where econometric methods were employed to find general trends in the region; (b) a qualitative approach to deepen the study of the results obtained from the econometric models. I intend at King's College China Lau Institute to develop the case studies (b) in four pivotal countries to the Chinese engagement in Latin America: Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela and Mexico. (AU)
