Abstract

There is a well established tradition of sociological studies of culture and intellectuals in Brazil, this fact can be seen by the amount of work, dissertations and theses carried out about the subject. This project aims to investigate the professional reality experienced by contemporary Brazilian writers from their social backgrounds in relation with the history of the Brazilian cultural field, looking forward to the artistic scene and the political story of the country. The research aims to understand the current logic of contemporary Brazilian literary system, the place of literature and writers nowadays in society.
