Abstract

Macrophages are important cells component of the human immune system. These cells produce and release reactive oxygen and reactive nitrogen species after inflammatory activation and, consequently, they can oxidize distinct thiol groups in proteins. Accordingly, information on the concentration of these species can help to understand their function in signal transduction pathways. Therefore, this project aims at the fabrication of nanosensors to be used in scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) and further application of such probes to get information on reactive oxygen/nitrogen species and thioredoxin proteins in macrophages after an inflammatory activation.
