Abstract The posterior capsule tightness (PCT) seems to be related to shoulder dysfunctions and alterations in kinematics. This fact can result pain and shoulder range of motion (ROM) deficit. The present study will verify the effects of a physical therapy protocol on pain, function, strength of the shoulder external rotators and shoulder rotation ROM in subjects with PCT and shoulder pain. Twenty-five subjects of both genders will participate in the study. All subjects will complete the DASH and SPADI questionnaires. Strength of the external rotators will be assessed in the sitting position with a handheld dynamometer. Internal and external rotation ROM will be recorded in the supine position with a digital inclinometer. The evaluator will be blinded for measurements and two repetitions will be performed for each outcome. The intervention protocol will consist of posterior mobilization of the glenohumeral (5min), stretching of the PCT (3x30sec) and strengthening of the shoulder external rotators (3x10reps). All subjects will receive intervention 3x/week/4 weeks and will be supervised by a physical therapist. The evaluations will be performed at pre and post-intervention. A follow-up evaluation after two months of the end of the protocol will also be done. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test will be done to verify the normality of the data. A paired T test will be used to verify the treatment effect. Significance of 5% will be considered. | |
