Abstract

This research aims to reflect how the prison system users prepare prospects for life in and out of prison, trying to understand how the specific circumstances that are submitted can affect political consciousness. We understand the prison system as a place marked by class oppression and the contradictions established between the legal guidelines and the reality of the penal institution in the capitalist system, which is established as totalitarian entity and hygienist permeated by ideologies. In a second step, we try to understand some aspects related to the movements of consciousness, understood as historical and social construction, focusing on class consciousness "in itself" and "for itself" in the perspective of historical and dialectical materialism, while highlighting the contradictory, procedural and dialectics nature of this process. The methodology includes conducting in-depth interviews with two members of a unit of progression prison located in the State of São Paulo. Information obtained in the semi-structured interviews will be categorized and analyzed based on the theory adopted. In this way, we will seek to understand how the participants appropriate their reality as users of the prison system and the world outside prisons, as citizens.
