Abstract

Packaging is used by humans since the dawn of civilization. At first it was used to protect and transport, but now it also inform, identify, promote and sell a product. At the Laboratory of Ergonomics and Interfaces of the Post-graduation Program in Design of UNESP several studies about the relation between users and packaging have been developed in recent years. It is known that the shape of the packaging is an impact factor in the purchase decision, but it is not known concretely how the perception of the shape of that product influences the process of use. Therefore, the aim of this study is to conduct an evaluation simulating activities with several screw cap packaging, involving objective and subjective data with Brazilian adults of different genders and age groups, seeking to determine whether the perception of the shape of packaging influences the perceptual usability aspects, and the transmission of manual prehension force at the opening of those packaging. The methodological procedures involve data collection and experimentation with the local community as well as the statistical treatment of the data. With that information, we hope to obtain a more accurate picture about the perception of the shape in packaging and its influence on the process of use in order to establish new projective guidelines for the packaging design.
