Associated to the scholarship: | 14/04832-3 - Study of the origin and metal transference in mangrove areas through isotopic analysis in the trophic chain and biochemical and morphological effects in Centropomus parallelus, BP.DR |
Abstract Different types of anthropogenic influences derived from harbor activities and industrial and agricultural effluents affect estuaries and coastal areas. Mangrove areas in two estuarine ecosystems: Vitoria Bay and Santa Cruz in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, with different levels of metal contamination will be evaluated to identify the source of metals and metalloids and the transfer, via the food chain, to a top trophic level animal (the fish, Centropomus parallelus). The concentrations of stable isotopes (carbon, nitrogen and lead) will be analyzed in abiotic (sediment and surface water) and biotic (plants, plankton, shrimp, crab and fish organs) matrices looking to determine the source of inorganic contaminants and to determine if there is biomagnification of these elements along the food chain. | |
