Abstract Music has an important role in Umbanda, in most cases, it is played and sung for to start to the end of the cult. However, despite the music being so exploited by Umbanda´s mediums, its role in Umbanda was little explored by researchers. Thus, this research aims to contribute to the study of this gap in the literature by investigating the letter of the "sung points" (Umbanda´s song), the role of music in possession and in the other cult moments and the influence of the "sung points" have in the lives of mediums. Therefore, the researcher will make a case study at Terreiro Pai Arruda, located in Sertãozinho, SP. Using the ethnographic method, annotations will be made in field notebook, participant observation, interviews with mediums and spiritual entities, such as data collection techniques. These will be examined in order to find elements that repeat, allowing it to plot the most consistent views group. Thus, a discussion of the data found by the researcher based on ethnomusicological literature and studies on the african-Brazilian religion will be made. | |
