Abstract

The project aims to carry out a study about the theoretical and methodological approach adopted by studies related to the production and diffusion of recorded music. The research will be done as a Visiting Scholar abroad at King´s College London, in a period of six months. It has been chosen in a wide spectrum of works produced in the range of 1970-2000 that were published in Europe and in the USA. The aims of the study is organized by two main goals: 1) identify experiences's researches that take the sociology as a theoretical and methodological approach, mapping and analysing their scientific proceedings and the conditions that these proceedings interfere in your final results. For that, we propose a specific treatment of a variety studies about the independent record companies, considering the way that them combine several dimensions of the problem (the relationship with other labes, production and market conditions, expansion capacity with diversity and innovation in repertories and catalogs of recorded music). 2) Elaborate a referencial board of theories and metods that were researched, seeking to circumscribe theoretically the recorded music as a sociological analysis object in the area that we are calling as Sociology of recorded music.
