Abstract

The rapid adaptability of an animal to climate change directly reflects the dynamics of livestock as it affects the animal protein production, where demand increases faster than supply, driven by human population growth and eating habits change. Specifically, the thermal stress can directly affect the physiological mechanisms for, among other mechanisms, epigenetic change patterns of an animal, interfering with the expression of certain genes in DNA methylation patterns and chromatin associated proteins. This project aims develop a DNA methylation atlas in different biological tissues (blood, skin, muscle, fat, thyroid, liver and hypothalamus / pituitary) of beef cattle, from comparing the Nelore (Bos indicus) and Angus (Bos taurus), submitted or not to heat exposure for induction of heat stress. By means of the experimental design, intend to investigate the biological mechanisms, genes involved in heat tolerance and the role of DNA methylation in high adaptability and production of Bos indicus in tropical environments compared to Bos taurus. Keyword: Adaptation, Bos indicus, Bos taurus, epigenômica, heat stress, animal reproduction (AU)
