Abstract

This research project is proposed for a research internship abroad during the PhD studies of Danilo Beli, who is funded by FAPESP through process number 2014/19054-6. This project will be conducted at Georgia Institute of Technology, located in Atlanta, USA, under the supervision of Professor Massimo Ruzzene, who has an extensive expertise in phononic crystals, acoustic metamaterials, and wave propagation methods. The main objective of this research is to investigate vibration and acoustic radiation in beams and plates that exhibit elastic band gaps. Many problems encountered in aircrafts, submarines and passenger cars can be tackled using these periodic structures. The structural elements are modeled using wave propagation methods such as the Spectral Element Method, which reduces the computational cost and provides accurate results. This project is a way to initiate collaboration between the Vibroacoustics Laboratory at the University of Campinas and the Vibration and Wave Propagation Laboratory at Georgia Institute of Technology.
