Abstract

The doctorate research in development aims to analyze how the musicians identified with the Chilean New Song movement sought to answer to the challenge of building a "new culture" in the context of the Popular Unity's government (1970-1973). Working with printed and musical sources, we seek to understand the extent to which "answers" were attuned to the governmental purposes and if the musicians indeed influenced the cultural policies debated and implemented by the Left in the period. To give continuity to the research, I apply for the scholarship Bolsa Estágio de Pesquisa no Exterior (BEPE) for five months, to realize activities at University of Helsinki, under the supervision of Professor Alfonso Padilla. In view of his experience as a musicologist, as a member of the Arts Central Council of Finland and as ex in charge of Culture in the Chilean Communist Party, I expect he can significantly contribute to the project in development, in particular during the analysis of the musical sources. Since the Professor is linked to the Department of Musicology and to the Latin American Studies Program from the cited University, the academic exchange will also allow me to contact foreign experts who are dedicated to similar themes, taking note of the methodology and forms of result analysis employed, at the same time that I disseminate my research and take suggestions to improve it.
