Study of seroprevalence and risk factors involved in the occurrence of canine leptospirosis in animals attended at population control campaigns in an area of São Paulo

Abstract

In view of the importance of canine leptospirosis in public health, this study aims to conduct an epidemiological survey serum to determine the occurrence of leptospirosis and risk factors associated with this disease in the canine population. Blood serum samples of dogs will be collected during the surgical sterilization campaigns in areas covered Surveillance Supervision in Health Campo Limpo/Capão Redondo; Supervision Surveillance City Health Ademar/Santo Amaro and Supervision of Health Surveillance of M'Boi Mirim/Jardim Angela all located in the south of São Paulo. The diagnostic method carried out for leptospirosis will be the technique of microscopic agglutination test, using as antigens a collection of 24 Leptospira spp. The owners of the animals answer a questionnaire, to trace the epidemiological profile of the population and carry out statistical analysis of risk factors.
