Abstract

Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT), currently called Hematopoietic Stem Cells Transplantation (HSCT) is a procedure which aims at restoring the function of the impaired bone marrow of the patient. This procedure is complex and involves risks of life. For patients who accompanies the children, most often, are the mothers who run all the way to treatment with the children, going through different experiences that demand special attention from the multidisciplinary team, for their physical and mental health. From this, the aim of this study is to analyze the experience of accompanying mothers of children undergoing HSCT, highlighting the experiences, perceptions and ways to deal with the situation. It is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory, cross-sectional. A convenience sample will consist of accompanying mothers of patients linked to BMT Unit of the Hospital das Clínicas de Ribeirão Preto. The instrument for data collection will be a semi-structured interview that address issues related to the topic. Interviews will be conducted individually, in face to face situation and audio recorded with the permission of participants. After collecting data, the audio-recorded content will be transcribed verbatim and in full. Subsequently, the data will be submitted to thematic content analysis. Investigate the perspective from which these mothers understand and deal with the HSCT (a) son (a) may enable the development of new ways of monitoring and intervention offered by health professionals to caregivers.
