Abstract

This project proposes to analyze the process of socio-spatial restructuring, its continuities and ruptures as a result and constituting the space production process. With a view to questioning the reality of the contemporary metropolis in the state of Rio de Janeiro, we will seek from the municipality of São Gonçalo analyze the socio-spatial transformations and their implications in the activation of spatial processes that complicate the production of space at the regional scale. It is assumed that the changes produced by the dynamics of spatial processes cause discontinuities from which you can define phases of rupture and connect the elements dissolved in each of these moments seeking to identify the continuities, taking them as a basis for a perspective historical production of space. In this sense, the methodological choice the categories form-function-structure (Lefebvre, 2000) in identifying and analyzing the phases of socio-spatial restructuring process enable us to relate the elements and agents of the production of gonçalense urban space and establish conditions for the understanding of the complexity in metropolitan Rio de Janeiro territory.
