Abstract BACKGROUND: Air pollution has become a major public health problem worldwide (WHO) second authors1 and has been implicated as a cause of negative impacts on human health. This impact includes increased mortality, hospital admissions, visits to emergency and use of drugs, due to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and decreased lung function. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the prevalence of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases in the population of a southwestern city of São Paulo exposed to air pollution caused by burning straw sugarcane. METHODS: The study is cross-sectional, population-based, using data through a Health Survey and will be applied directly to the person or responsible for those under 12 years. The thematic blocks of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases will be used. To ensure the quality of data collection, interviews will be conducted directly at home. For blood test will be analyzed levels of triglycerides, lipoprotein cholesterol high intensity, low intensity lipoprotein and glucose in addition to the complete hemogram so that abnormal levels are reviewed for possible detection of cardiovascular risk factors. Therefore, there will be realized the pulmonary function by spirometry to confirm the diagnosis of lung disease. Finally, for detecting fire and hot spots will be performed spatial analysis by satellite images for mapping and location of fires. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: For data normality will be assessed by the Shapiro-Wilk test and the description of the results will be held by mean and standard deviation values. The association between categorical variables will be verified by the chi-square test (Yates' correction will be used in 2x2 contingency tables). For multivariate analysis will be used Poisson regression with robust adjustment of variance. In all analyzes will be adopted statistical significance (p-value) of less than 5% and all analyzes will be carried out in Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0. | |
