Abstract

Insulin users at home people generate waste similar to those produced by the health services, in the act of automonitorizar capillary glucose and self-administer insulin. Therefore, it is imperative that the healthcare team east procedures on the handling of waste, especially of sharps waste and dispose of them, respecting the norms of biosafety and minimizing the risk of contamination by infectious agents such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. However, there is not a technical and legal guideline in Brazil, on the management of such waste generated in households. This justifies the need to know how they are managed waste generated in households of people with diabetes, insulin users, in order to propose new guidelines in such situations, in order to minimize risks of exposure to sharps and biological agents, for the community and for the environment. Therefore, this study aims to know the management of sharps waste per household in insulin users in the Family Health Units in São Carlos - SP, featuring responsible for the administration, the management of such waste and the perception of risks involved. It is a descriptive and exploratory research, where the home in insulin users answer a structured questionnaire validated with closed questions on the subject. The data from this research will be analyzed using descriptive statistics. (AU)
