Abstract

Despite being based on the principle of Computed Tomography (CT), Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) consists of a recent imaging modality for analysis of breast images, especially for breast cancer diagnostic purposes. However, to acquire an image with this equipment, the use of dangerous ionizing radiation is needed. Nevertheless, lowering the dose of radiation implies in raising the noise level in the image. Thus, this project proposes to carry out the three-dimensional tomographic reconstruction from the two-dimensional projection data of breast tomosynthesis using traditional and state-of-the-art methods for tomographic reconstruction in CT. With this, it is expected to achieve a better balance between detail preservation and noise reduction, contributing to the development of DBT technology.
