Abstract

Speech is a complex process involving sensory and cortical activities. Auditory processing is closely related to speech and involves skills such as selective attention, sound detection, discrimination, location, recognition, and memory. Despite the auditory processing being widely studied, there is still no consensus on the influence of cognitive tasks (top-down interactions) in auditory sensory tasks (bottom-up). In addition, the maturing issues and their relation to the performance of these tasks also differ between surveys. Thus, the present study aims to investigate the influence of top-down interactions discrimination and identification of acoustic contrasts of speech stimuli (bottom-up task) and directed attention (top-down task) in the dichotic listening test according to the vowel in adults and children. In addition, this study aims to check for the influence of maturation in both the performance and for the effect of laterality.
