Abstract

The human tissue kallikreins (KLKs) comprise a family of 15 serine proteases distributed over various tissues and biological fluids. These enzymes are indicated as acting in different pathologies such as Alzheimer's disease, cancer, atopic dermatitis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, psoriasis, and others. Thus, there is a demand for specific inhibitors for each of the KLKs, and that's the topic of our research projects in UFABC. In the search for specific inhibitors, caught our attention the possibility of obtaining fragments of recombinant antibodies from libraries phage display, able to specifically inhibit each of the KLKs. We made contact with Prof. Michael Hust, from Technische Universität Braunschweig, in Germany, who has extensive experience in the development of recombinant antibodies, and has accepted to receive me in his lab for a period of one year, where we intend to produce recombinant antibodies for KLKs using the library of phage display. After this time, I hope to return to Brazil with the knowledge to work with libraries of phage display for the production of recombinant antibodies for KLKs, and other proteins/proteases of interest of the scientific community of the State of São Paulo, and Brazil.
