Abstract

Complex dynamical systems may be exposed to critical thresholds, so called tipping points, at which small changes in their parameters can abruptly shift the system to a contrasting dynamical regime. During an academic visit to Prof. Dr. Ulrike Feudel, we propose to investigate the possible after-effects of tipping points, especially by analyzing transient properties of trajectories for parameters in their vicinity. In the case of tipping points associated to fold bifurcations of limit cycles, we are going to show that rotation properties of transient structures succeeding this bifurcation mimics a stable state, what inhibits the abrupt transitions associated to tipping points and provides useful information of the dynamics following them.
