Abstract

The aim is to determine the residual feed intake and nutrients digestibility in water buffaloes of three genetic groups during the growing phase, noting the possible variations of these characteristics and NDFi content. The study will be conducted at the Center of Tropical Research in Buffaloes, Experimental Farm Edgárdia/ Botucatu/SP, belonged to the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of São Paulo State University (Universidade Estadual Paulista "Julio de Mesquita Filho") in partnership with the State University of Maringa (Universidade Estadual de Maringá). Seventy five water buffaloes of tree genetic groups (Murrah, Mediterranean, and Jafarabadi; twenty five of each treatment) will be used. Which will be classified in two groups of RFI, high RFI and low RFI, nearly 16 animals per genetic group. The fresh feces samples will be collected for determination of fecal excretion with internal markers to determine the neutral detergent fiber indigestible (NDFi). Bromatological analysis from diet samples will be performed to obtain dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), ash, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), NDF corrected for ash and protein (NDFap), and lignin. For statistical analysis will be used the PROC MIXED procedure of SAS statistical package (2002).
