Abstract Oxidizing agents such as chlorine, ozone, potassium permanganate, chloramines and hydrogen peroxide are widely used in chemical waste treatment processes in wastewater. Chlorine is the most used, however, their use generates products that can reflect risks to animal health and the environment. Aiming at less toxic products, the study of alternative ways degradation is of great importance. The use of hydrogen peroxide is a alternative, since it is a strong and non-selective oxidant. In the generation process of this oxidizing agent, the use of quinones as catalysts is widely studied since they potentiate this synthesis. The focus of this project is to study the generation of hydrogen peroxide using the 1,4-naphthoquinone as a modifier in the carbon black matrix applied to the gas diffusion electrode (GDE). | |
