Development of technologies to prevent pollution: degradation and monitoring online of antibiotics in sewage

Abstract

Pharmaceuticals and other biologically active pollutants has been the focus of recent research due to the realization of their occurrence in different biomes around the world, with continuous introduction through various wastewaters. Among these pollutants, antibiotics have gained attention due to their biological activity and the ability to promote resistance in bacteria from the environment, reducing the long term effectiveness of these compounds. Another point to be considered is the limitation of conventional public sewage treatment for the removal of these compounds and the few studies involving the determination, via sensors, these substances during the treatment processes. In this scenario, this project presents an alternative electrochemical treatment, that associated with current conventional techniques of sewage treatment, aims to provide a complete removal of organic compounds resistant, so the objectives of this project are in the first stages of development eletródicos materials for the construction of electroanalytical sensors electrodes and also anode and cathode for the degradation of antibiotics in the following steps, electrochemical reactors will be constructed in different scales for the degradation process in different ways, being the efficiency of these systems, degradation monitored on-line by electrochemical sensors, formed a compact and autonomous for wastewater treatment with antibiotics associated with biological systems of public sewage treatment.
