Abstract

The toxocariasis is a zoonotic helminthiasis caused by Toxocara canis or Toxocara cati. In the human body these parasites are unable to perform their normal life cycle, however their larvae cause symptoms still poorly elucidated. In the United States the prevalence of smaller dogs infected for 6 months is 30% to 25% is cats and humans is 14%. Justification: Since controlled studies on toxocariasis are scarce and there is evidence of the relationship between toxocariasis, asthma, overweight and joint symptoms, the development of new studies to elucidate how they correferem for knowledge that helminths and its clinical manifestations is fundamental. Objectives: To describe the incidence of asthma, obesity and joint symptoms in children with toxocariasis in a neighborhood of the city of Campinas-SP. Methods: A cohort study nested in a population-based cross-sectional study. The sample population studied consists of 200 children 02-12 years, who were randomly selected and submitted to the collection of blood sample, being diagnosed 27 positive for toxocariasis, which will be followed for one year to observe the incidence of respiratory symptoms, articular disease symptoms and childhood obesity. Expected results: Will be analyzed using logistic regression and t test, the socioeconomic and demographic variables, health, growth, and the presence or absence of asthma, joint disease and obesity, for the calculation of the effects of these in children with serologic marker of toxocariasis, for better understanding of the disease and its clinical manifestations.
