Abstract

In recent years, with the increase of the use of industrial products, the world population has become more exposed to several unknown or "new" toxicants, named emerging contaminants. Among them, it is noteworthy the increase of use of a specific organic compounds, usually known as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). EDCs have become relevant topic in Science due to their potential to induce adverse effects either on human health and environment. Developed countries are already performing routinely biomonitoring assessments of EDCs on several samples of their populations, in order to obtain data that may assist researchers and public health agencies to perform studies of risk assessment, which it can prevent over exposure to these compounds by the populations as well the inadequate release to the environment. However, in development countries such Brazil, studies concerning risk assessment are still scarce. In this context, the present proposal aims the determination of three classes of EDCs: bisphenols, parabens and phthalates metabolites, in urine of children living in São Paulo State, Brazil. Finally, it is expected that the results of the present work may contribute for a better knowledge and systematic assessment of the background levels of exposure to EDCs, in Brazil.
