Abstract

The composition of Brazilian hospital architectural rules is very static when you consider the complexity and dynamism of medical technologies in relation to hospital buildings. In Brazil, it does not exist any kind of systematization of researches and data bases when it comes to improve the present rules. It is possible to find this kind of systematization in United Kingdom. Known as Evidence-Based Design (EBD), it intends to gather information scientifically recognized to make the hospital design better based on evidence. Considering that United Kingdom has a public health system similar to Brazil's, which is called Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), the application of a system like EBD may bring benefits to hospital design in Brazil. This research intend to compare the rules of Brazil and United Kingdom in a table, analyzing its relation to EBD systematization seeking to identify suggestions to upgrade Brazilian hospital design rules.
